Healthcare Sharing Ministries have come to regulators attention recently, as healthcare continue to increase. Essentially, a religious group bands togheter, everyone contributes money, and they then pay medical claims from the pool of money. It is very clearly not identified as insurance. While this may help people actually get needed care, there are some concerns:
- What happens if I have a claim to large for the pool to pay.
- MEmbers of the group vote on what claims to pay. After I have contributed, can they deny my payment anyway?
-The plans are not ACA compliant
- There is no financial control or oversite on either the plans or who is watching over the money.
