The contract ends on August 1.  United Healthcare has mailed letters to all members informing them that Tenet will be out of the network as of that date.  Members would not be able to go to a Tenet Hospital unless they have out-of-network coverage, which (of course) would cost alot more.

This is usually a negotiating technique, as both the insurance carrier and hospitals need each other.  However, in this new marketplace under Obamacare, it requires close monitoring as it is certainly possible that they do not come to an agreement.

Tenet Hospitals include Coastal Carolina, East Cooper, Hilton Head and Piedmont Medical Center.
