According to an article in Bloomberg Business (May 25-31, 2015), access to Mental Health has been dramatically cut back by ObamaCare and state funding cuts.
“The Affordable Care Act was supposed to expand access to psychiatric care” but the legislation has had the opposite effect. 26 percent of those insured now say they cannot get an appointment with a mental health provider. 32% said they couldn’t afford their medications because of high deductibles.
“Citing low reimbursement rates…” only 55% of mental health providers now accept private insurance/Medicare. This compares to 93% of other specialists who take insurance. A Maryland study found that only 14% of psychiatrists listed as in-network could give an appointment within 45 days.
