Nason Medical Centers no longer in Blue Cross Networks

Urgent Care Terminations

As you may have heard, BlueChoice HealthPlan is making some changes to our HMO and Open Access networks. Effective October 8, 2014, these urgent care centers will no longer be part of those networks:

  • Nason Medical Centers/Ambulatory Urgent Care Clinics: James Island (one location), Mount Pleasant (one location), North Charleston (two locations) and Summerville (one location)
  • MedCare Express Clinics North Charleston (one location) and West Columbia (one location)
  • MedCare Urgent Care Centers: Charleston (one location), Columbia (two locations) and Anderson (one location)

Members with BlueChoice® Open Access plans will still have coverage when they visit any of these centers after the termination date. We will pay benefits, however, at the out-of-network level.

Members with BlueChoice HMO plans will not have coverage if they choose to visit any of these centers after the termination date. Also, if an HMO member has selected a doctor at any of these centers as his or her primary care physician, the member will need to choose a new doctor from the HMO network.

Please note these terminations do not apply to BlueChoice individual plans purchased on the Health Insurance Marketplace (exchange products) and BlueChoice HealthPlan Medicaid.

We are sending letters to members in the HMO and Open Access plans who have used these providers informing them about the changes.

BlueChoice members will still have significant choices for in-network urgent care providers. They will be able to find an in-network center they can easily access. Please encourage your customers to visit the Doctor & Hospital Finder tools on our website to find in-network urgent care centers. (Keep in mind that the terminating urgent care centers will remain on our Doctor & Hospital Finder until the termination date.)

We thank you for your support as we help our members and your customers with this transition.
