I had the opportunity to review a DOL Audit notice on a health plan – fortunately not on one of my clients.
While it is unclear what triggered this specific audit. However, what will become clear is how invasive and time-consuming this audit will be for this company – something to avoid at all costs.
The DOL requested 35 documents, including the employee handbook, written details of who is responsible for handling the funds and collecting and forwarding them, contracts, HIPAA Sample Certificates, logs, sample notices, plan rules, benefit summaries, grandfathering documentation, etc.
It is very important that – regardless of the size of your plan – that you maintain good and clear recordkeeping and insure that your health insurance company/s are doing their job.
If you are concerned about making sure you are in compliance, just give me a call in the office.
