United Healthcare and Central Connecticut Hospitals

THis notice comes from United Healthcare:We are committed to providing your clients and their employees with access to comprehensive and affordable health care services. As part of this strategy, we are currently negotiating a new contract for all lines of business with The Hospital of Central Connecticut, located in New Britain and Southington, Connecticut.
We are employing good faith efforts to negotiate a new contract prior to the official termination date of September 9, 2011 that is acceptable to both parties and meets our commitment to keep health care affordable. If our current agreement with The Hospital of Central Connecticut terminates, it will affect both UnitedHealthcare and Oxford commercial products.
We are taking precautionary measures to prepare, so that little, if any, impact is felt by our members if The Hospital of Central Connecticut were to become non-participating. As part of this plan, we are sending letters to affected commercial group employers and members to notify them of the potential termination.
When speaking to your clients, please keep in mind the following points:
  • We will have Transitional Care guidelines in place so members who have scheduled or ongoing medical treatments at The Hospital of Central Connecticut will continue to get care as appropriate.

  • After September 8, 2011, a primary care physician or specialist should not refer members to The Hospital of Central Connecticut for any treatment or test. Instead, members should be referred to one of the major neighboring hospitals in our network, as listed below.

Bristol Hospital Bristol

The focus of our negotiations is on offering reasonable rates that will not put an unnecessary cost burden on employers and consumers during these difficult economic times. We are also mindful of The Hospital of Central Connecticut’s need to be competitive with other health systems in the state.
We will continue to work toward a positive outcome of affordable health care for our employers and their employees and will keep you informed on the status of negotiations. If you would like more information or have questions, please contact your sales representative.
