Legislative Update: Dental Non-Covered Services

This notice is from The Guardian – Reeve

Recent legislation in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, Texas and Wyoming prohibits insurers from compensating dentists on a discounted fee-for-service basis if the procedure performed by the dentist is not covered by their plan. Consequently, Guardian can no longer require network dentists located in these states to charge patients a discounted fee for procedures that are not included as covered benefits under their plan. The effective dates of the legislation are as follows:

Alabama: 9/1/2011
Arkansas: 3/22/2011
Georgia: 7/1/2011
Maryland: 10/1/2011
Minnesota: 8/1/2011
New Mexico: 4/7/2011
North Dakota: 8/1/2011
Texas: 9/1/2011
Wyoming: 7/1/2011

Guardian has notified planholders in these states.
